Reporting a Scam or Fraud

Read this article to find out the steps you should take if you have been scammed and how your complaints can help authorities stop this in the future.

    No one thinks they can become a victim of a fraud or scam until it happens to them–and even the best of the best sometimes slips. No matter how educated we are, it’s still possible to fall victim to a scam.

    Here are some tips on what to do if you become victim to these cyberthreats:

    – Immediately change all your passwords in your online account and delete any malicious software you may have downloaded

    – If you think you have provided your account details to a scammer, contact your bank or financial institution IMMEDIATELY.

    You can also reach out to different government offices working with anti-cybercrime authorities and other relevant law enforcement agencies to track down and prosecute those behind such cybercriminal activities/ schemes.

    WHAT TO DO IF YOU GET SCAMMED:

    Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas – BSP Online Buddy (BOB)

    Report frauds, scams, and abuses relating to products and services of BSFIs* to:

    Webchat

    1. Go to https://www.bsp.gov.ph
    2. Look for BOB’s icon on the lower right portion of the page
    3. Click BOB’s icon and a chat box will appear.

    BSP FB Messenger

    1. Open the official BSP Facebook page
    2. Click the Messenger icon
    3. Click “Get Started”

    SMS

    1. Open your messaging app
    2. Text “Complaint” to 21582277 (For Globe subscribers only.
    3. Wait for acknowledgement and feedback prompt.

    *BSFIs refer to Banks, Non-Banks with Quasi-Banking Functions, Non-Stock Savings and Loan Associa tions, Pawnshops, Foreign Exchange Dealers, Money Changers, Remittance Agents, E-Money Issuers, Money Service Businesses, and Virtual Currency Exchanges under BSP supervision.
